Malik wants to try new players after series win
Bureau Report

LAHORE—Pakistan Cricket Captain, Shoaib Malik said on Wednesday that new but deserving players will be given a chance after securing series against Bangladesh.
“Definitely we will be trying out those players who are excelling in the game in domestic cricket and only suitable replacements “,he told APP here on Wednesday.
He said the formula of right man for the right job will be followed for including new players in the team after winning the series. “There are budding batsmen, bowlers and all rounders who have exhibited brilliant performance in the domestic tournaments specially in the national one day tournament and they will be given a chance in order to exploit their talent and to judge their prospects in the game”,he asserted. He said as a captain he always believes in giving exposure to the new players as it is the best way to find replacements for experienced players and to build up the team.
“Like any other cricket event, playing Bangladesh is also of greater significance for us and I am glad that the team demonstrated collective efforts for achieving a favourable result “,he added. “We posted a big total and in one day cricket it is always difficult to chase 300 plus runs and this factor kept Bangladesh under pressure and they were never in right direction to hunt the target “,he maintained.
“Winning one game does not mean that task has been accomplished, there are still four games to be played and we have to show consistency to win the series”,he said. Answering a question,he said, openers did not click in the match and it does not mean that they are not capable of doing. “ We have to have a faith in them and to see how they perform in the coming matches, patience is the key to success”.
Pak cricket captain while praising experienced Mohammad Yousaf, bowlers Sohail Tanvir, Iftikhar Ajum and Shahid Afridi for their fine performance in the first one day, urged the team members to lift the level of their fielding. “It is a department in which, still I believe, we need to do more and it is only possible when we are physically tough and in proper trim “,he said. Shoaib Malik said he always endeavours to do justify in the role of a captain and he is delighted that he played an innings which helped the team to come out of crisis in the first ODI.
“As a captain the responsibility is always double in terms of motivating the team to produce good results and then to perform to a level which could inspire other players and at a time when a captain is not performing team some times comes under depression “,he said.
He said Bangladesh is a team which will be aiming to make a come back in the coming matches and Pak team members must keep in mind their history making achievements before going in every game against them.
“Coach Geoff Lawson is a vital support to us and he is helping the players to overcome mistakes and we are learning from each game and the learning process never ends “,he said.
Shoaib Malik refuses to underestimate Bangladesh, despite marshalling a 152-run thumping win in the opening game of the five-match ODI series against the visitors in Lahore. A century from Mohammad Yousuf and 85 from the captain himself set Pakistan up before Sohail Tanvir, Rao Iftikhar Anjum and Shahid Afridi wrapped up a comfortable win over a strangely insipid Bangladesh.
Malik, however, insisted that it was dangerous to draw too many conclusions from the game. “You can’t judge a team on one match alone. This is cricket where you can’t take any team lightly,” he said. “We set them a big target and sometimes if you get a good start, you can push the chase close. But our bowlers did really well to take early wickets to put the pressure on.”
