PM reviews NWFP law & order strategy

PESHAWAR—Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has assured that the federal
government would extend its full support and assistance for the welfare
and development of NWFP and FATA. He expressed confidence that law and
order would improve substantially under the dynamic leadership of
democratically elected government which remained under pressure over the
last few years.
He was talking to the NWFP Governor Owais Ahmad Ghani, Chief Minister
Ameer Haider Khan Hoti and Speaker NWFP Assembly Kiramatullah Khan
Chagharmatti here at the governor house soon after his arrival in
Peshawar.
Various aspects related to the interest of the province came under
discussion. Governor and the Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister
for visiting the NWFP and accorded opportunity to the NWFP government to
present its view point on certain issues. They also congratulated him
for his unopposed election as the Prime Minister of the country. Both
the Governor and the Chief Minister apprised the Prime Minister of
various initiatives for the wellbeing and development of the province.
They also briefed the Prime Minister about the law and order situation
in the province and FATA.
On this occasion Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani held an appeal to the
citizens of Karachi to remain peaceful and not to be misled by trouble
makers and avoid involvement in violence. He asked all the political
forces to exhibit tolerance and promote harmony, a prerequisite for
development and prosperity.
At the outset of the meeting the Prime Minister congratulated the NWFP
Chief Minister for his election as leader of the house without contest
and said that it showed magnanimity and maturity of the political
parties in the province and also the confidence they demonstrated in
him.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Wednesday said an enquiry has
been ordered into the incidents involving Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Dr Sher
Afgan Khan Niazi. Chairing the cabinet meeting here at the PM
Secretariat, the Prime Minister took strong note of the two incidents at
Karachi and Lahore and said those responsible will not be spared. He
directed that a report be submitted to him at the earliest. The cabinet
members also expressed their concern.
