IHC reduces Nigerians’ jail sentence

ISLAMABAD—A Division Bench of Islamabad High Court here Wednesday reduced jail sentence of three convicted Nigerian drug pushers by three years. The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam and Justice Dr Sajid Qureshi heard the bail application of Mr Landa, Mr George and Mr Sena. It also directed that they be deported to their respective country immediately and would not return.
Each of them was convicted of carrying 717 grams heroin and had been sentenced to seven years imprisonment.
Rizwan Abbasi advocate, counsel for the appellant, prayed to court that they were ready to be deported to their respective country and would not return.
He requested that they had already spent three years in prison so the rest of the punishment should be rescinded.
The same bench also accepted an appeal of another drug convict Javed Akhtar and reduced his jail term by three years.
Raja Mohammad Aslam Advocate apprised the Court that convict was arrested in 2003 after recovery of charas from his house at Rawat.
He contended that FIR was tempered besides, discrepancy in the statements of eye witnesses.
He prayed to court to consider the senility of the convict on humanitarian grounds.
