Wheat quota suspended for 70 flour mills

LAHORE—The Punjab Food Department has so far suspended wheat quota for more than 70 flour mills of the province for committing irregularities. A spokesman of the Food Department explained that this action has been taken against these flour mills that were found guilty of atta smuggling, overcharging, less grinding and supplying of atta in the market ,and not compiling the proper record in this regard.
The spokesman further said that these defaulting flour mills were from Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Bhakkar, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khanewal, Jhang, Faisalabad, T.T. Singh, Bahawalpur, R.Y. Khan, Multan, Vehari and Rajanpur Districts. He clarified that the suspension of wheat quota to any flour mill is automatically distributed to the other mills of the area that are functioning properly.
He further said that some flour mills were found using delaying tactics in grinding of wheat that was available @ Rs. 465/- per 40 KG from the Food Department, for profiteering by selling wheat at new rates of Rs. 625/- per 40 KG.—Agencies
