Coalition unanimous to restore judges: Zardari

LAHORE—Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari on Monday disclosed that despite
conspiracies being hatched we are fix to our stance on Restoration of
Deposed Judges. Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari expressed these views
while talking to a delegation here on Monday. He said that PPP attaches
top priority to the service of people and does not believe in political
vendetta.
He said that we are united in our stance, however some people are trying
to create differences in Judges issue. He reaffirmed his commitment to
reinstate the deposed Judges of the country including Chief Justice
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Undoubtedly PPP will complete the unfinished
mission of Benazir Bhutto and Zulfiqhar Ali Bhutto, he pointed.
Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naik on Monday underlined that no summary
has been prepared regarding retirement of Judges.
No compromise shall be made on issue of deposed Judges adding will be
reinstated within 30 days, Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naik expressed
these views while talking to host of Journalists on Monday. No
constitutional package will be acceptable without the restoration of
deposed Judges stressing Murree Accord will be implemented in utmost
letter and spirit, he maintained. Replying to a question, Naik added
that not only Government but entire nation wants deposed Judges to be
restored at the earliest.
Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan
has said that no package or formula except the restoration of the
deposed chief justice and other judges would be acceptable and,
therefore, he would not hesitate to stage long march, if needed. He was
talking to the media men at his residence before departure for Okara.
He made it clear that if the government through some constitutional
package wanted to strengthen the judiciary, then it must do, but the
restoration of judges was a separate issue for which the struggle of the
lawyers would continue.
He said that PML-N and PPP had publicly made a pledge that all the
judges would be restored within 30 days after formation of government.
Aitzaz Ahsan said that the planned addresses of deposed chief justice,
Iftikhar Chaudhry to the Bar Associations had been withheld on the
request of the Prime Minister, Yusuf Raza Gilani. Federal Law Minister
Farooque H. Naik Monday said the deposed judges will be restored
according to the people’s aspirations. Farooque H. Naik said, “The
parliament will have to take decision on the judiciary issue and it will
be resolved according to the aspirations of the masses.”
Talking to media after meeting a delegation of lawyers, he said a
parliamentary committee of member parties of the ruling coalition will
be formed to compile recommendations for the resolution to restore
deposed judges that will be tabled in the parliament.
He said he was not considering over any proposal to reduce the tenure of
the judges of superior judiciary. He said, “No summary has been prepared
to cut tenure of the judges of the superior judiciary.” He requested the
people to observe restraint as the process for restoration of the judges
has been started and the matter will be resolved within 30 days. |
