Steps to be taken for up-gradation of defense industry, says Minister

RAWALPINDI—Federal Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that steps will be taken to further upgrade and modernize the Defence Industry of the country so as meet the defence requirements of the Armed Forces.
He stated this while chairing a meeting held on Monday in the Ministry of Defence Production.
The minister said that it was imperative to undertake the Research and Development activities by the attached departments of Ministry of Defence Production, which could play a vital role in the modernization process of the defence industry.
The minister said that the austerity drive announced by the Prime Minister of Pakistan should be strictly adhered to so as to bring financial discipline in the state institutions.
Earlier, Secretary Defence Production, Lt Gen (retd) Shahid Siddiq Tirmizey gave a comprehensive briefing to the minister about the role and function of the ministry and its attached departments.
The secretary highlighted the contribution made by the defence production units of Pakistan particularly Pakistan Ordinance Factories (POF) Wah Heavy Industry Taxila (HIT), Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra and Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.
The secretary also introduced officers of the ministry. Apart form the minister and the secretary the meeting was attended by Maj General (Retd) Tariq Saleem Malik, Additional Secretary Brigadier Abid Hussain Bhatti, Commodore Zafar Iqbal Haider, Joint Secretary Col (retd) Zahid Omar and other senior officials of the Ministry of Defence Production.
