Sardar Mehtab aims to change Railways

ISLAMABAD—Newly sworn in Minister for Railways, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan
has taken charge of office as Federal Minister. An important political
figure of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed was born on
December 15, 1952 in Malakot area of Abbottabad.
He graduated from Sir Syed School Rawalpindi and later had his Bachelors
degree in Legislation and Law (LL.B) and practiced as lawyer in
Rawalpindi courts before joining his father’s clothing business.
His uncle Sardar Sarfaraz Khan tipped Sardar Mehtab as politician and he
was elected Member of the Provincial Assembly first time in 1986. Mehtab
Khan won all elections except in 2002, though it could not block his way
to the Parliament as he was elected Member of the Senate in 2003.
He became 22nd Chief Minister of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP)
on February 21, 1997 and served in the office till October 12, 1999. He
also held offices of provincial minister health, law and parliamentary
affairs while served as federal minister for Kashmir Affairs and
Northern Areas.
Sardar Mehtab had been member of Senate Standing Committees on ports and
shipping, foreign affairs, defence and interior. He is an active PML-N
stalwart and one of the party leaders who had been to jail during their
political careers.
He won the February 18 general elections from NA-17 and PF-45,
Abbottabad on ticket of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He seized
victory over independent candidate Azhar Khan Jadoon in NA-17 and
defeated independent candidate Sardar Ali Zaman in PF constituency.
