Loadshedding
to persist for two more years: PEPCO
ISLAMABAD—Despite untiring efforts of WAPDA to enhance power generation
in country the dreaded loadshedding is most likely to continue for two
more years,Spokesman and Director General Pakistan Electric Power
Company (PEPCO) Tahir Basharat Cheema said Sunday.
Talking to newsmen he said the intensity of loadshedding would be much
less next year as compared this year as PEPCO has been tasked to add
2200mw power within this year. As many as 15 Independent Power Producers
(IPPs) are set to start their projects late this year.Till year 2010
they will be adding 2,868 mw power.
He said public sector has recently been asked to move in tandem with
private sector aiming to bridge the power demand and supply gap as
everything depends upon the public policy and the policy was then that
only private sector could add more generation. In a major policy shift
WAPDA has been tasked to come up with plan togenerate 6100 mw power
through coal within next three years.
