Camp for Asian Junior Volleyball Championship in Iran continue

PESHAWAR—Camp for Iran Asian Junior Volleyball Championship is in full swing here at Coaching Center of the Pakistan Sports Board, Secretary NWFP Volleyball Association Shahid Kamal told APP here on Friday.
Shahid Kamal, who is also camp commandant, disclosed that International coaches Khalid Waqar, Fazale Rabi and Ch. Akram have been deputed by the Pakistan Volleyball Federation to provide coaching to the selected probables in the camp.
The aim and objective of the camp is to train and coach the probables for the forthcoming Asian Junior Championship to be held in Iran in August this year. The said Championship is being scheduled in Pakistan but was now shifted to Iran on the request of some of the participating teams.
The International event will certainly prove an opportunity for the kids to see top players in action but shifting of the Championship to Iran vanished all such hopes. He said, efforts are continued that PVF would hire the services of Bulgarian coach. Pinning great hope from youngsters, he said, they would be proved an asset in future of the game in the country.
About the camp trainees, he said, the players in the camp are mostly below 18 and among them some are below 16 years of age. There will be a long way for them to play and represent Pakistan at national and international levels, he opined.
He disclosed that promising youngsters like Aimal and Rameez are 17-years old while Nasir Khan is 15-year-old. Aimal is a good height of 6 feet and 7 inches, Razeez is 6-2 and Nasir is 6-4. The camp, he said, has been divided in two different sessions ­ morning and evening. In the morning the coaches have physical training session and game practice is part of the evening session, he said.
The camp is part of the long-term planning adopted by PVF for the overall development of the game at grassroots level, he said. These youngsters had excellent result in recently concluded National Junior and Senior Championships, he said.
The performances of the camp trainees was excellent because the association named a team to represent NWFP and by representing the province the team defeated PAF and POF in the National Seniors Championship in straight sets and reached to semi-finals. NWFP is the only provincial team reached to the semi-finals of National Seniors Championship since 1955, he remarked. He said PSB and PVF have joined hands to continue long term planning so that volleyball could be promoted at grassroots level. The names of the camp trainees are: Aimal Khan, Rameez Khan, Faisal Rizwan, Akhtar Ali, Nasir Khan, Tasifullah, Younus Khan, Farid, Amjad Khan, Wahid Raza, Imran Khan (NWFP), Abdul Ghafoor, Zeeshan, Najibuddin, Wasil Khan and Azhar (Punjab).
