Environment Minister pays surprise visits to filtration plants

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Environment Mr. Hameedullah Jan Afridi has called upon the CDA to ensure availability of clean drinking water to the people. During a surprise visit to the filtration plants at G-6/1, G-6/2 and F-11/1, the Minister was informed by the inhabitance of these areas that proper timing for supply of water at the filtration plants is not being observed. They also complained to the Minister about the dirtiness around the vicinity of the filtration plants.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister expressed concern over the unhygienic conditions around the water filtration plants and said that the cleanliness at the filtration plant is not satisfactory and causing serious threats to heath of the people using these filtration plants. He also expressed concern for keeping no proper record of the checking of these plants. The manholes around the facility of the filtration plants were found open and posters of various political parties were found pasted in the filtration plants. The vicinity of these plants was also gutted with garbage and dirty water.
During the visit to these filtration plants, the Minister took samples of the water which would be tested to check quality. He said that after receiving the results of these tests, the matter would be taken with the Capital Development Authority if the water was found contaminated. He assured the resident of these areas that frequent check and verification of the record would be made to ensure availability of clean and contamination free water to the people. The Minister was accompanied by Director General Environmental Protection Agency Asif Shuja Khan and other officers of the Ministry.
