Govt committed to ensure supremacy of parliament: PM

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday said the government was committed to ensuring the supremacy of parliament in accordance with the constitution.
Talking to Deputy Chairman Senate Jan Mohammad Jamali, here at the PM House, the Prime Minister said the government believes in strengthening the state institutions and was taking steps for ensuring freedom of media and independence of judiciary.
Jan Jamali congratulated the Prime Minister on assuming his new responsibilities and expressed confidence that the new democratic set-up would come up to the expectations of the people and work for the strengthening of the democratic institutions.
Meanwhile Talking to a delegation from his constituency at PM House,Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said the government would make concerted efforts to ensure provision of basic necessities of life to the people at their doorsteps.
The delegation told the Prime Minister that the government's decisions of releasing detained judges, increasing minimum wages and announcing new wheat support price were higly appreciated by general public.
Earlier, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that government would make concerted efforts to ensure provision of basic necessities of life to the people at their doorstep. The Prime Minister said this while talking to a delegation from his constituency who called on him at the PM’s House this afternoon.
The delegation told the Prime Minister that government’s decisions of releasing detained judges, increasing minimum wages and announcing new wheat support price have been very well received by the general public.
