NWFP assembly slams CIA chief

PESHAWAR—NWFP assembly through a unanimously adopted resolution has slammed CIA chief statement and demanded of the federal government to take serious notice of this statement.
As soon as NWFP assembly session started Tuesday, PML-N parliamentary leader Pir Sabir Shah on a point of order invited the attention of the house to CIA chief statement published in newspapers whereby he had talked of striking Pak-Afghan borders. This is threatening statement and it has fomented discontent among the people, he added. US had already disrupted peace of the area by interfering in the affairs of region, he charged. Therefore, the matter should be put to debate, he demanded.
Israr Ullah Ganda Pur said a resolution be brought in the house on this issue and federal government be asked to summon US ambassador and seek clarification if the statement is personal opinion of CIA chief or it represents US policy. Speaker told the matter would be discussed after election of chief minister. Later Mian Iftikhar Hussain moved a resolution mutually agreed by all parliamentary parties leaders. The resolution was unanimously adopted.
The NWFP Assembly here Tuesday unanimously elected ANP and PPP’s joint candidate, Amir Haider Khan Hoti as Chief Minister of North West Frontier Province. The session of NWFP Assembly started on Tuesday morning with Speaker Karamatullah Chagharmati in chair. Speaker, Karamatullah Khan asked the members of the Assembly to express their vote of confidence for the Chief Minister. The members by standing at their seats expressed confidence in the Chief Minister by saying (Yes).
As many as 113 members reposed their confidence in Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti with no vote against. Later, the newly elected Chief Minister thanked the lawmakers. All the parliamentary leaders of political parities in the House congratulated the chief minister and assured him full cooperation.
The 37-year-old Haider Hoti was elected as NWFP Chief Minister unopposed on Monday, as no one had filed nomination papers for the top slot against him. Earlier, the nomination papers of Hoti were proposed and seconded by the legislators from almost all the parliamentary parties on Monday. Hoti would take oath as Chief Minister at the Governor House at 4pm on Monday. NWFP Governor Awais Ahmed Ghani would administer the oath to him.
