Chinese firm assures to complete power projects in time

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister for Water and Power, Raja Pervez Ashraf
expressed determinaton that Pakistan is fully committed to provide basic
facilities to the consumers saying “we would remove all bottlenecks to
facilitate the foreign investors to invest in the power sector in
Pakistan as there are great opportunities in this sector.
“Today Pakistan is facing great challenges especially in power sector as
the shortage of energy has badly affected the country’s economy.” He
made these observations while talking to 4 members Chinese delegation
headed by Mr. Si Zefu, Chairman M/S Dongfang Electric company (DEC), who
called him here Tuesday. Secretary and Advisor, ministry of water and
power and MD, PEPCO and other senior officers of Wapda and the Ministry
were also present in the meeting.
The Minister welcomed the delegation and informed about the current
energy crisis situation faced by Pakistan. He invited the Chinese firm
to participate in power sector and requested the company to complete the
projects, contracted by the DEC in Pakistane.
The Minister said” we recognize the professional experience of the
company” and expressed hope that this Ministry would be benefitted with
its expertise.
He said that they had close and brotherly relation with the neighbor
country China from decades and have full confidence on its hard working
and credible companies. He said that Pakistan expect that Chinese
government would extend its support and assistance enabling Pakistan to
overcome the power crisis, he added.
The Chairman of the company stated that the company was well aware of
the power situation in Pakistan and assured that it would complete the
project as per schedule. They also expressed their interest to take part
in various other projects in Pakistan in future.
M/S Dongfang Electric Corporation is a China’s state owned company
specialized in power equipment manufacturing . DEC has already completed
the hydropower plant at Ghazi Barotha Project which is delivering 1450
MW. They are currently working on five other power projects of 869MW.
Now PEPCO is going to sign another contract today with DEC for
construction of 525 MW combined Cycle Thermal Power Plant at Chickoki
Malian.
The Minister appreciated the efforts of the company and thanked them for
extending their support in this respect. |
