Senate body on education visits HITEC

ISLAMABAD—The Senate Standing Committee on Education and Science and Technology visited Heavy Industries Taxila Education City (HITEC) located in Taxila. The Committee presided over by its Chairperson Senator Razina Alam Khan, went around various sections of the institute including the Science Labs, Computer Labs and other education support infrastructure. It was observed that the model of HITEC is the only one and unique of its kind and needs to be replication in all the four provinces with a view to provide quality education, said a press release here Tuesday.
The Committee termed the HITEC as a model institution, which needs to be developed further to benefit the students belonging to the middle and lower income groups. The members of the committee observed that the HITEC can provide a nucleus of trained manpower and can promote national integration and cohesion.
Senator Razina Alam Khan asked HITEC management to do more efforts for strengthening its role in the sphere of education. The members of the committee lauded generous contribution of the philanthropists and social reformers and remarked that due to their efforts “the dream has been turned into reality.”
They eulogized the services of the Chairman HITEC for his efforts to make the institute a model for others. The Chairman HITEC, Lt. Gen. Israr Ahmad Ghuman informed the committee about the aims and objectives of HITEC.
He said the educational project was conceived by the top management of Heavy Industries Taxila in late 2003 which was completed in a record time of four years. He said that the project was completed and being run on self help basis, adding the education city has been built to offer a ‘one step’ education facility encompassing all levels of schooling, college education, vocational training and university education with numerous centers of excellence.
The Chairman HITEC said that state of the art facilities were being provided to the students to polish their skills and make them useful citizens. He also informed them about the enrolment, fee structure and other steps to be taken in future to make the institute more strengthened.
The Senate Committee included Senators Tahira Latif, Liaqat Ali Bangulzai, Sajid Mir and Dr. Muhammad Said. The Chairman HITEC and senior officials of the institute were also present on the occasion.
The Senate Secretariat has assigned Standing Committees to officers with immediate effect. They will act as the Ex-Officio Secretaries of the respective Committees allocated to them, according to an Office Order issued by the Secretariat Tuesday.
According to the notification Syed Muhammad Ilyas Public Relations Officer Senate of Pakistan has been allocated Standing Committee on Women Development and Standing Committee on Information & Broadcasting. Mr. Ghulam Murtaza, Deputy Secretary Senate of Pakistan has been allocated Standing Committee on Religious Affairs, Zakat, Ushr & Minorities Affairs, Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development and Standing Committee on SAFRON. Syed Sajid Mohsin Director Public Relations Senate of Pakistan has been allocated Standing Committee on Communications & Railways and Standing Committee on Ports & Shipping.
