‘Makhdoom’
ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday announced to
minus ‘Makhdoom’ from his name, saying its literal meaning was ‘the
served one’, however he believed in serving the people. “We are not
Makhdooms (served), but the Khadims (servants) of the people,” the Prime
Minister said at the launch of documentary film on Zulfikar Ali Bhutto
here. Gilani said in earlier times, spiritual personalities were
regarded as Makhdooms for their service for the religion. “But now,
there is no room for any Makhdoom, so I make it obsolete from my
nomenclature and would like to call myself as Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani,”
he added.—Online |
