PM no more ‘Makhdoom’

ISLAMABAD—Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Tuesday announced to minus ‘Makhdoom’ from his name, saying its literal meaning was ‘the served one’, however he believed in serving the people. “We are not Makhdooms (served), but the Khadims (servants) of the people,” the Prime Minister said at the launch of documentary film on Zulfikar Ali Bhutto here. Gilani said in earlier times, spiritual personalities were regarded as Makhdooms for their service for the religion. “But now, there is no room for any Makhdoom, so I make it obsolete from my nomenclature and would like to call myself as Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani,” he added.—Online
