Tracking systems for curbing carjacking: SSP

ISLAMABAD—SSP Islamabad; Syed Kaleem Imam, has called for encouragement
of installation of tracking systems in cars, for curbing carjacking
instances. He stated this while reviewing the weekly performance of
Capital Cops, in the Crime-Control Meeting held here this Monday. SP
West along all SDPOs and SHOs, were present at the occasion.
The SSP was informed at the meeting that during the period under review,
Capital Cops arrested 630 accused while recovering stolen valuables
worth Rs.2,801,400 from their possession. The recovered items included 2
cars, stolen ornaments, 6 mobile phones and various household objects.
464 suspicious vagabonds on lose, were arrested. On the other hand, in
order to beef up security measures and to ensure protection of life and
property to the citizens, 50 CC TV Cameras were fixed at important
places and commercial centers, 63 alarms were installed at houses while
35 alarms were set up under Car Safety Scheme.
Moreover, 23 Proclaimed Offenders, including Court Absconders and
Military Deserters were arrested during the said period while 160
challans were submitted in the courts whereas 14 objectionable challans
were rectified. respectively.
Meanwhile, 17 cases pertaining to arms and ammunition were also
registered wherein 20 Pistols, 2 12-bore guns and 100 live cartridges
were recovered. 17 cases of narcotics were also registered and 21.325 kg
Charas, 20 grams Heroine and 519 liquor bottles were recovered. 5
gamblers were also arrested during the said period.
Capital Cops also launched Safe Home Schemes in the Capital under which
63 alarms were installed at various houses across the city. Moreover, 35
alarms were installed under the Car Safety Scheme while 70 security
guards were deployed at important places and business centers all
around. 4 accused were proceeded under Section 182 PPC. Cops also nabbed
464 suspicious individuals during the ongoing search operation against
anti-social elements.
SSP Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam has directed all SDPO’s and SHO’s to
further improve their performance while calling for adoption of
effective measures for controlling crime in their respective areas.
He stressed for encouragement of tracking systems to be installed in
vehicles for timely detection of carjacking instances and for
apprehension of car thieves, accordingly. He further directed the cops
to ensure deployment of private security guards at commercial centres
and other important places. He further directed the cops to have close
contact with the public and solve their problems at priority basis. He
called for enhanced patrolling while warning that slackness in duties
would not be tolerated. |
