Spring flowers and birds show opens

ISLAMABAD—The 26th ‘Spring Flowers and Birds Show’ was opened here at Fatima Jinnah Park F-9 on Friday.
The three-day exhibition, to provide a visual delight to the lovers of nature, was jointly arranged by Islamabad Horticulture Society (IHS) and Capital Development Authority (CDA).
Floriculture lovers from across the twin cities visited the park to see a exquisite variety of foreign and local flowers, plants and birds that had been put on display. The show exhibited a variety of potted plants, cut flowers with artistic arrangements.
A large variety of colourful flowers were displayed at the exhibition depicting the spring in full bloom. The participants exhibiting creative designs of flower arrangements included AIOU, PAF, Air Headquarters, PWD, KRL, CDA and Islamabad Club. The variety of flowering plants were displayed including Mimalas, Mesembyanthemum, Nemesia, Nicotlana, Pansy double, petunia, Poppy, Schizanthus, Statice, Stock, verbena, Anchusa Antirrninum (Tall and small), Arctotis Gazania, Brachycome, godetia and Gypsophila.
The Bird Show with number of local and foreigner birds including variety of parrots, sparrow, dove and beautiful cock and hen in couples being a striking feature of the exhibition was centre of attention for majority of people especially children.
The Bird Show was organized by Fancy Birds Breeders Society and Beaks and Wings Club, a non profitable club for the conservation of birds in the country. Chairman CDA, Kamran Lashari inaugurated the exhibition and expressed his views on the occasion.
Appreciating such kind of activity, he said that it is a healthy activity to promote horticulture among the nature lovers of the twin cities. The aim of organizing such exhibition was to bring people closer to the beauties of nature and provide them entertainment in healthy environment.
Director Environment CDA, Iftikhar Ahmad Awan told APP that IHS organizes two exhibitions annually, one in mid-March to welcome Spring season namely ‘Spring Flower Exhibition while ‘Autumn Flower Exhibition’ held during last week of November.
Apart from stalls arranged by professional organizations, house gardeners were also given a chance to show their art of gardening, he added.
The exhibition, he said, was arranged specifically for the people of twin cities. On Sunday ,the concluding day, prizes would be distributed to the best flower and bird stall by the chief guest Aqeel Anjum, Local MNA.
