Advani greets Premier

NEW DELHI—Senior BJP leader L K Advani Thursday called up Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to greet him and impress upon him the need for good bilateral ties and joint fight against terrorism.
Gilani, on his part, said he looked forward to working with India in resolving all outstanding issues, reported PTI. During the telephone conversation, the BJP’s Prime Ministerial face wished well for the democracy in Pakistan, sources said here.
The Leader of the Opposition emphasised the importance of good relations between both the countries and mentioned the upswing witnessed in bilateral ties during the previous NDA regime. Advani stressed the need for joint efforts to end the menace of terrorism, the sources said.
Incidentally, Advani’s emphasis on ending cross-border terrorism came a day after National Security Advisor M K Narayanan said that Pakistan still continues to train terror groups and India will continue to face attacks from them.
On a personal note, both Advani and Gilani recounted their earlier meetings and the Pakistan Prime Minister conveyed his good wishes for ailing BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Advani also spoke about his visit to Pakistan two years ago.—Agencies
