New transport still a dream in twin cities

RAWALPINDI—The commuters between Islamabad and Rawalpindi have appealed to Rawalpindi District Administration to introduce the much publicized transport system following the closure of the Varan transport.
The local administration, which has earned bad repute due to the closure of the Varan, had assured that a new transport system would be introduced but nothing has been done so far.
Officials contacted in fact expressed their unawareness of the initiation of any such a system. The affected people alleged that the promise of the introduction of new system was simply floated to calm down the sentiments of the people.
The local administration has again left the commuters at the mercy of the wagon transporters who are not only fleecing the passengers but also misbehaving with them. Tussle between the staff of mini busses, wagons and the commuters have become a routine matter in the twin cities on the issue of overcharging in the absence of authorized fare chart. Talking to this agency the people belonging to various walks of life have urged the concerned authorities to issue a fare chart at earliest to rid the commuters off the situation.—Agencies
