PML-N presses MQM to change course on judiciary

ISLAMABAD—PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal said PPP and PML-N alliance was based on Murree declaration and charter of democracy adding if MQM wanted to join this alliance , it would have to change its stance on November, 2 judiciary.
“PML-N has reservations about MQM. If it wants to join our alliance it will have to adopt the stance of restoration of November, 2 judiciary”, he said this while talking to the journalists outside the parliament house.
It is mandate of newly elected national assembly to elect president of its own will for five years term, he said adding president Musharraf should step down forthwith. All the judges will be released as soon as new prime minister takes his oath, he pointed out. About PML-N inclusion in federal cabinet Ahsan Iqbal said “ we had reservations about administration of oath by president Musharraf. But we got ready to swallow this bitter pill by forsaking party stance for a major cause”, he maintained.
Tehmina Daultana, MNA of PML (N) here Monday said that PPP and PML(N) led coalition would ensure independence of judiciary, supremacy of parliament and freedom of media to transform the country into a social welfare state. Talking to reporters, she said that her party contested the elections on the basis of restoration of judges, freedom of speech and welfare of the masses.
She said that the new set-up will face the challenges like law and order, poverty and unemployment adding that measures will be taken to face them while adopting prudent and people-friendly policies. Commenting on policies of the previous government, she said that successful and good policies would be reviewed and further strengthened for provision of relief to common man while new policies would be made in the forthcoming budget.
She reiterated that independence of press would be ensured while private channels will be brought at par with official channels by allowing them the facilities like coverage of parliament activities. About women issues, she said their representation would be enhanced in diverse fields to empower them whereas technical programmes would be introduced for the unemployed educated youth and rural women to create better employment opportunities and enable them to earn respectable livelihood for themselves and their families. Tehmina Daultana added that PML-N-PPP led coalition would also make efforts for safeguarding the rights of women for their socio economic empowerment.
Former PM, and PML leader Mir Zafar ullah Jamali has scoffed at, and strongly berated the odd political doctrine of MQM.
Talking to a Private TV channel, he termed it as quiet bizarre that MQM wants to remain allied / affiliated to PML-Q while at the same time voting for its adversaries, maintaining that such kind of attitudes do not portray a prudent and sagacious political understanding and approach.
