Rohi mela concludes

KHANPUR—International as well as domestic tourism can be promoted by restoring the Derawer fort which has now become a symbol of this region. Head of the Khawja Farid Foundation and ‘sajjada nasheen’ of Khawja Ghulam Farid Kot Mithan Sharif masoleum, Khawja Moeen uddin Mahboob Koreja said this while addressing the conclusion ceremony of the Khawja Farid Rohi mela that was held in the grand desert of Cholistan, from March 21 to 23, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Eid milad un Nabi on 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal.The venue of the festival “Jhok Farid”, some 40 kms from Khanpur, near Feroza, drew hundreds of enthusiasts from all over the country. Khawja Moeen said that in order to counter extremism and promote tolerance and education a varsity be established in the name of Khawja Fareed in the area. Furthermore, he said that irrigation water, restoration of the masoleum of Khawja Farid, a bridge between Kot Mithan and Chahcraan Sharif were the major needs as well as demands of the people of this region. The vice president of main organising body Khawaja Farid Foundation, Mujahid Qabui told on Monday that festivities rooted in the Cholistani cultural traditions such as camel races, folk dances, wrestling, etc were witnessed and equally enjoyed by locals as well as visitors from other areas. A feat of motorcyclists on the undulating sandy dunes of the desert was a major attraction of this fair.
