Leghari urges parties to come up to expectations of masses
By Ali Imran

ISLAMABAD—Former President Sardar Farooq Leghari has urged the majority parties to come up to the expectations of the masses for what the people have mandated them. “They should also come up to the expectations and aspirations of the masses for what they have mandated for by the people. Moreover, the majority parties should run the parliament business as per the constitution,” he said.
The veteran politician advised the new government to fulfill the demands of the masses as soon as possible as ‘people start feeling disillusionment’ from the government only six months after the formation of the government. When his comments were sought over the delay of announcement of prime minister candidate by PPP, the former President said it was sole prerogative of the PPP to name its candidate for the top slot.
To a question of nominating two women for the slots of speaker and deputy speaker, Leghari said there was no hinderance in law for women to become speaker or deputy speaker of the National Assembly.
“I remember that Mrs. Ashraf Abbasi was elected Deputy Speaker by the PPP in late 80s,” he said.
