Amir Hussain hopes all success for Fehmida, new Assembly

ISLAMABAD—Former Speaker National Assembly Ch. Amir Hussain Wednesday hoped that newly elected Speaker would put in her best efforts to run the House in best possible manner. Speaking after the announcement of Dr. Fehmida Mirza’s victory in the election of Speaker National Assembly, he said it was a historic day as first female NA Speaker has been elected for the first time in the constitutional history of the country.
Amir Hussain thanked the party leaders and members of the last assembly for extending their cooperation and guidance to create a congenial and amicable environment for legislation in the House.
He said speakership of this august House was not an easy task, but if all the members show responsibility and extend their cooperation, there would be no difficulty to create harmony among treasury and opposition benches. Referring to his long-time relations with the family of Dr. Fehmida Mirza, he said her family always struggled to uphold democratic norms and traditions even in difficult time.
“She won national assembly seat thrice in a row and have a better understanding of rules and procedures of the House,” he said. The former Speaker said the last assembly completed its five-year constitutional term and all its members must be credited for this success story.
He said the House Business Advisory Committee played a very effective role in finding out solutions to sometimes very difficult issues and “I must acknowledge the services of its members who worked devotedly irrespective of their party affiliation.”
“I hope the newly elected assembly will also complete its constitutional term that will help further strengthen democratic institutions in the country,” he said. He hoped that Dr. Fehmida Mirza would be “one of the best Speakers” and her tenure would be remembered as a golden chapter in the constitutional history of the country.
