Committee reviews prices of essential commodities

ISLAMABAD—Prices of essential commodities were reviewed at a high level
meeting of District Price Control Committee, here on Wednesday. The
meeting was chaired by the chief Commissioner, Islamabad Hamid Ali Khan
and attended by members of D.P.C.C. Chief Commissioner Islamabad
informed the meeting that despite increase in the prices of petroleum
products, ICT Administration would continue to ensure provision of food
items at controlled rates.
He called for price checking and food sampling on regular basis to
ensure stability and quality of food items. The meeting reviewed Atta
supply situation in the Federal Capital and expressed satisfaction over
the availability of 20 kg flour bags at the controlled rate of Rs. 300/-
in open market.
It was decided that quality of Atta should be ensured through talking
samples from the market regularly and complaints in this regard be
addressed by the Food Department immediately.
Chief Commissioner Islamabad directed Addl: Deputy Commissioner (G)
Islamabad Rana Akbar Hayat to take up the matter of Laboratory fee with
National Institute of Health immediately and resolve the issue so that
results of food samples could reach the District Food/Health Department,
without delay for taking further legal action.
He said ICT Administration is also taking necessary measures to ensure
the implementation of Consumers Protection Act in Islamabad and
representatives from cross section of society have been included in the
council to protect the interest of consumers.
They will keep strict watch over the price of essential commodities. The
meeting expressed concern over the increase in the prices of some
vegetables particularly green chilli. It was informed that some crops
were damaged due to severe cold and bad weather recently. That’s why
prices were gone high.
Chief Commissioner urged upon the trades community to insure abundance
supply of food items to keep the prices down. |
