PM’s choice still embroiling PPP

ISLAMABAD—Senior leader of Pakistan Peoples Party, Yousaf Raza Gillani has said that the party leaders have not finalized the name for the slot of Premiership and he is not candidate for any post. Talking to media before attending the inaugural session of NA Assembly on Monday, the PPP leader however said that if any responsibility is assigned to him by the party leaders then he would try to fulfill this.
Yousaf Raza Gillani further said that the Prime Minister would be elected after the announcement of final names for the slots of Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. He said that true democracy in the country would be restored in the country and PPP after transferring of power would take along the opposition in every matter. Responding to a question regarding displaying of a banners against Makhdoom Amin Fahim, the Senior PPP leader said that the banners were displayed by the party workers which reflects their sentiments. The party workers should avoid such steps, which harm the sentiments of party leaders, he however added. A Central Leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Member National Assembly, Chaudhary Ahmed Mukhtar Monday said that Asif Ali Zardari has the right to nominate any candidate for prime minister slot. “Bhutto family and Asif Zardari have rendered sacrifices for party and they have a right to select prime minister,” he said while talking to media in the Parliament House.
He said that Benazir Bhutto in her will had deputed Asif Zardari as party chairperson but he made Bilawal Bhutto Zaradari to be the chairperson. About alliance between PPP and PML-N and other allied parties, he said, “We all have joined hands to save our country.” He said all conspiracies would be foiled through the strength of parliament.
PPP Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari Monday said the world has witnessed the end of dictatorial rule in Pakistan. Talking to media after joint parliamentary meeting of PPP, PML (N), ANP and MMA here in the Parliament House, Zardari said “The days of dictatorship are over and we, with the support and help of the people of Pakistan, have ensured that the democracy is put on track. For this very act, we are thankful to the masses who voted us into power.”
Zardari expressed the hope that the future government would take steps so as ‘the democracy is strengthened in the country in a minimum time limit’. Earlier, the PPP Co-Chairperson arrived at the Parliament House amid tight security. The Administration had made special arrangements in and around the Parliament House.
Upon his arrival at the Parliament House, personnel of law security agencies and private security guards escorted the bullet proof vehicle of PPP Co-Chairperson to main entrance. Mian Raza Rabbani, the Opposition Leader in the Senate, and other PPP leaders welcomed Asif Zardari at the Parliament House and escorted him to the Chamber of Raza Rabbani where the heads of PPP, PML-N, ANP and JUI-F had a detailed meeting prior to the joint parliamentary party meeting.
