US Congress
assails ousting judges
WASHINGTON—A resolution condemning the sacking of judiciary by President
Pervez Musharaf and demanding the restoration of judges has been
presented in the US Congress.
The resolution welcomes the joint decision of Co-Chairman Pakistan
People’s Party, Asif Ali Zardari and Chief of Pakistan Muslim League
(N), Nawaz Sharif for the restoration of judiciary. The members of US
Congress William Delahund and Zoe Lofgren have also written letters for
seeking support for the resolution.
The United States has condemned weekend bombing in an Islamabad
restaurant that claimed the life of a Turkish woman and injured several
others. A senior official also reaffirmed the US resolve to continue to
work with Pakistan in combating extremism.
“The U.S. condemns the latest in a series of bombings in Pakistan that
have taken the lives of over 500 people since January,” National
Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe told CNN Sunday. He said
“extremists that are targeting innocent Pakistanis, as well as Americans
and others in the international community in Islamabad and elsewhere
must be stopped.—Agencies |
