Plan to construct 14 storey medical tower
in PIMS put off
ISLAMABAD—The Health Ministry has deferred the plan to construct 14
storey medical tower in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS)
and the amount allocated for the project would be expanded for the
up-gradation of the present building of the hospital and for further
construction.
According to sources of the Health Ministry, the ministry has ended the
project after declaring the project non-implemented and unnecessary and
the new Minister in this regard would announce the formal announcement
after assuming the charge.
Sources said that the 500 beds were reserved for riches people in the
medical tower and strong reaction was erupted on the public level in
this regard but due to former Health Minister Naseer Khan, no one was
dared to talk against the project. After his (Naseer) departure, the
final decision to end the project has been taken.
Sources said that the amount reserved for the project would be utilized
for the construction of third storey and provision of other facilities.
It may be recalled that the project was finalized in 2006 and the
foundation stone was laid down on January 13 without the approval of the
amount reflected the interest of Prime Minister of that time Shaukat
Aziz in the project. Sources said that funds worth of Rs. 2.20 billion
was approved for the project. —Online |
