Hockey & Squash coaching courses continue

PESHAWAR—Pakistan Sports Board Coaching Courses for Athletics, Hockey
and Squash are continuing in full swing under the supervision of
qualified coaches here at PSB Coaching Center premises on Thursday.
Arshad Mehmood (Hockey) and Mohibullah Junior (Squash) conducted the
five hours long session, divided in theoretical and practical
demonstration for each game. All 15 females and 20 males coaches and
physical education teachers of various schools and colleges from across
the province taking part in the course.
Ex-national hockey player and qualified international coach Arshad
Mehmood through different slides informed the coaches about the basics
of hockey. He also taught the participants how to involve and developed
the interest of the beginners toward national sports hockey.
By making various formations like attacks, mid-defense and
responsibility of the deep defenders also came under discussion through
slides show. He also identified the sides of the players through hockey
ground structure.
For practical session Arshad Mehood took all the participation to the
nearby Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium and conducted practices session of the
hockey basics. The measurements of the hockey ground, players’
responsibilities while defining playing ground in three deferent zones
as deep defenders, mid-defenders and attackers areas.
He highlighted five principles of fundamental of hockey, which are, ball
movement and control, passing and receiving, winning the ball from an
opponent (Tackling), scoring, identifying the concept of numerical
advantage through mini and modified, and games of up to and including 3
vs. 3.
Models of exemplary behaviour were also demonstrated during the practice
session besides encouraging level of respect for all within the game.
Mohibullah, PSB Senior coach taught the basics of squash like racket
movement, speed of racquet preparation to increase shot options,
accuracy and power, shortening of stroke.
Racquet grip and preparation; increase possibilities by using the wrist,
especially useful in the front and the middle of the court, besides
pause before stroke and grip position were also discussed by Mohibullah
in his lecture.
He also taught, how to boost movement technique, match tactics,
practical conditioning and mental approaches of the kid to improve their
game as beginners, Mohibullah added. |
