PML-N wants PM capable of implementing CoD
Staff Report

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal Wednesday said the PML-N wants a prime minister who should be capable of implementing the Charter of Democracy. Addressing a news conference after a high-level party meeting, Ahsan Iqbal said that it is the right of the PPP to nominate a prime minister and PML-N would respect their decision.
“Whosoever the PPP will chose to be prime minister, the PML-N will honour its decision,” he said. The meeting, chaired by PML-N Quaid and former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, discussed ongoing dialogue process with PPP over power sharing and got the views of the party leaders in this regard, Ahsan Iqbal said.
He said power would be shared in the Center and the provinces according to seats percentage of each party in the assemblies. Ahsan Iqbal said the talks among the coalition partners were proceeding in a positive manner. Replying a question, he said the Murree Declaration inked by the two major parties on March 9 was the victory of the democratic forces and it opened a new chapter for the nation’s aspirations to see democracy flourishing in the country.
“Pakistan’s constitution does not allow any single individual to bulldoze any decision taken by the elected parliament,” he said in reply to a question about the accord to restore the deposed judges. He said a conflict would arise if President Musharraf did not accept the decision of the parliament, which he said represented the will of the masses who wanted the restoration of the sacked judges.
Earlier, Javed Hashmi said that the party Quaid Nawaz Shairf was committed to implementing the party’s stand for reinstatement and there was no change in it and there would be none. Hashmi said pre-emergency status of the judiciary would be revived and added that the President did not have majority in the National Assembly to protect the steps he had taken during last several years. “Some people are trying to undermine the coalition of two major parties but they would fail,” he said. Hashmi appreciated the role of media, civil society and lawyers and said “we will welcome media criticism so that remain on the right track.”
PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said Murree declaration is a crucial milestone and its implementation will be ensured.
PPP co-chairman said this during his meeting with Italian envoy Vincen Zo Parati who met him Wednesday in Zardari house. They exchanged views on restoration of full fledged democracy, political situation of the country and matters related to formation of government.
The Italian envoy condoled with PPP co-chairman over the assassination of Benazir Bhutto besides expressing grief over loss of precious lives in terror related incidents. He held out assurance of his government full support for the ongoing efforts for formation of democratic government and consolidation of democratic norms. PPP co-chairman expressed gratitude to Italian envoy saying PPP was fully committed for restoration of unalloyed democracy in the country adding consultation process with other parties had been completed in this connection.
