By Asghar Ali Mubarak
ISLAMABAD—President Supreme Court Bar Association Aitzaz Ahsan has said
that the legal fraternity all across the country would stage a long
march from their respective cities towards Awan-e-Saddar instead of
Islamabad if President Musharraf tried to hatch any conspiracy against
Bhurban accord.
The President’s legal advisors were giving wrong information to
President over reinstatement of deposed judges who refused to take oath
under Provincial Constitutional Ordinance (PCO), he said this while
talking to media men here on Wednesday after holding talks with
Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari alongwith his
spouse.
He challenged Attorney General Malik Qayyum and Sharif-u-Din Pirzada for
debate on TV Channel that 2/3 majority is not needed for reinstatement
of deposed judges but only a resolution is enough in this respect. Those
who were saying that 2/3 majority is needed for reinstatement of deposed
judges in fact supporting the unconstitutional steps taken by President
Musharraf on November 03, he maintained.
Black flag week, the President SCBA said, is being observed with full
devotion and dedication while traders and civil society are actively
participating in it. The rally in Lahore had been postponed due to bomb
blasts while new date would be announced in this respect soon, he
pointed out.
Commenting on statement of Senator Latif Khosa that he (Aitzaz) is no
more Muslim by giving call of black flag week in month of Rabi-ul-Awal,
he said, he is not willing to comment on it. He asked President Pervez
Musharraf to step down for peace in the country. Answering to a
question, he added, the decision to participate in the by elections for
seat in the national assembly would be taken by the Party.
The nation would not forgive a man who detained 9 deposed judges
including deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad
Chaudhary, Aitzaz said. The traders would also join the ongoing movement
of legal fraternity and would give call of shutter down strike across
the country if President tires to create trouble on the way of
Parliament for reinstatement of deposed judges, he warned.
Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal
Wednesday said the PML-N wants a prime minister who should be capable of
implementing the Charter of Democracy. Addressing a news conference
after a high-level party meeting, Ahsan Iqbal said that it is the right
of the PPP to nominate a prime minister and PML-N would respect their
decision.
“Whosoever the PPP will chose to be prime minister, the PML-N will
honour its decision,” he said. The meeting, chaired by PML-N Quaid and
former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, discussed ongoing
dialogue process with PPP over power sharing and got the views of the
party leaders in this regard, Ahsan Iqbal said. He said power would be
shared in the Center and the provinces according to seats percentage of
each party in the assemblies.
Ahsan Iqbal said the talks among the coalition partners were proceeding
in a positive manner. Replying a question, he said the Murree
Declaration inked by the two major parties on March 9 was the victory of
the democratic forces and it opened a new chapter for the nation’s
aspirations to see democracy flourishing in the country.
“Pakistan’s constitution does not allow any single individual to
bulldoze any decision taken by the elected parliament,” he said in reply
to a question about the accord to restore the deposed judges. He said a
conflict would arise if President Musharraf did not accept the decision
of the parliament, which he said represented the will of the masses who
wanted the restoration of the sacked judges.
