Aitzaz threatens long march towards Presidency

ISLAMABAD—President Supreme Court Bar Association Aitzaz Ahsan has said that the legal fraternity all across the country would stage a long march from their respective cities towards Awan-e-Saddar instead of Islamabad if President Musharraf tried to hatch any conspiracy against Bhurban accord.
The President’s legal advisors were giving wrong information to President over reinstatement of deposed judges who refused to take oath under Provincial Constitutional Ordinance (PCO), he said this while talking to media men here on Wednesday after holding talks with Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Asif Ali Zardari alongwith his spouse.
He challenged Attorney General Malik Qayyum and Sharif-u-Din Pirzada for debate on TV Channel that 2/3 majority is not needed for reinstatement of deposed judges but only a resolution is enough in this respect. Those who were saying that 2/3 majority is needed for reinstatement of deposed judges in fact supporting the unconstitutional steps taken by President Musharraf on November 03, he maintained.
Black flag week, the President SCBA said, is being observed with full devotion and dedication while traders and civil society are actively participating in it. The rally in Lahore had been postponed due to bomb blasts while new date would be announced in this respect soon, he pointed out.
Commenting on statement of Senator Latif Khosa that he (Aitzaz) is no more Muslim by giving call of black flag week in month of Rabi-ul-Awal, he said, he is not willing to comment on it. He asked President Pervez Musharraf to step down for peace in the country. Answering to a question, he added, the decision to participate in the by elections for seat in the national assembly would be taken by the Party.
The nation would not forgive a man who detained 9 deposed judges including deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary, Aitzaz said. The traders would also join the ongoing movement of legal fraternity and would give call of shutter down strike across the country if President tires to create trouble on the way of Parliament for reinstatement of deposed judges, he warned.
Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal Wednesday said the PML-N wants a prime minister who should be capable of implementing the Charter of Democracy. Addressing a news conference after a high-level party meeting, Ahsan Iqbal said that it is the right of the PPP to nominate a prime minister and PML-N would respect their decision.
“Whosoever the PPP will chose to be prime minister, the PML-N will honour its decision,” he said. The meeting, chaired by PML-N Quaid and former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, discussed ongoing dialogue process with PPP over power sharing and got the views of the party leaders in this regard, Ahsan Iqbal said. He said power would be shared in the Center and the provinces according to seats percentage of each party in the assemblies.
Ahsan Iqbal said the talks among the coalition partners were proceeding in a positive manner. Replying a question, he said the Murree Declaration inked by the two major parties on March 9 was the victory of the democratic forces and it opened a new chapter for the nation’s aspirations to see democracy flourishing in the country.
“Pakistan’s constitution does not allow any single individual to bulldoze any decision taken by the elected parliament,” he said in reply to a question about the accord to restore the deposed judges. He said a conflict would arise if President Musharraf did not accept the decision of the parliament, which he said represented the will of the masses who wanted the restoration of the sacked judges.
