Passengers seek action against transporters

ISLAMABAD—The recent increase in petroleum and diesel prices has been a blow to people’s hopes of improving their living standards. Taking advantage of the uncertain situation, public transporters in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have also increased fares.
Though the authorities concerned announced they would take stern action against transporters who have raised fares on their own, conductors are fleecing passengers. Taxi drivers have also increased fares. The commuters opined that that the fare increases without notice were unjustified.
Ahmed Kashif Saeed said, “I commute daily between Khanna bridge and F-8 Markaz. Transporters have increased fares for this route without notice. “Passengers have made a number of complaints but the authorities concerned have turned a deaf ear,” he added.—Online
