5th Parliamentary year of Senate completes today

ISLAMABAD—The fifth parliamentary year of Upper House of the Parliament has been completed today (Tuesday). 127 Presidential Ordinance, 74 Legislative Bills were tabled in the five years from 2003-04 to 2007-08. The Senate approved 34 bills while 12 bills after rejected were sent back to the National Assembly.
39 bills were referred to Committees and out of them, 9 were amended, however, only 3 amended bills were approved.
The National Assembly referred 37 bills to the Senate for approval during the last five years while 38 bills were introduced by the Senators. Overall 186 privilege motions were tabled in the Senate and out of which 28 were referred to the concerned committees.
Overall 1232 adjournment motions were tabled and 51 were discussed. In the Senate, 415 call attention notice were tabled and only 27 were responded by the ministers. Out of 1314 resolutions, only 29 were approved.
The Senators during the question hours questioned 12437 questions and 4088 questions were responded from the ministries. During the last five years, 24 motions were tabled under rule 58 and two were discussed while under 194 rules, 2317 motions were tabled and only 33 were discussed.
It may be recalled that the Senate session for 90 days is required in one Parliamentary Year, however, in the year of 2007-08, the required days were not completed as overall 42 sessions of the Senate were held in that period.
