By Shama Adil

ISLAMABAD—Everyone would be busy today, celebrating the International Women Day, through different events calling importance to the cause of women. Probably, keeping this in mind and feeling deeply for the womenfolk, the cultural wing of the Chinese embassy, marked solidarity with the women, here yesterday, through a cultural show entitled 'One World, One Dream', at the embassy, here yesterday, a day short of the International Women Day. Wife of Mohammad Mian Soomro; Acting PM was the chief guest at the occasion while the distinguished Capitaliite women were entertained at the outstanding cultural show, with Jiang Xini, wife of the Chinese Ambassador, personally attending each guest.
The highlights of the cultural show remained Pakistani girls' performance on a Sindhi traditional song, a fashion show carrying Chinese models in their traditional attires, a live song performance by some local singer, a dance of Chinese boys carrying handkerchief, a couple dance in the Chinese style, dance of a local girl on the theme of Laila-Majnoon, Chinese kids' dance performance and last but not the least, local girls' performance on a famous Pakistani pop song of yesteryears; Meine Tumhari Gagar Se. And this was not all but after the entire show, the guests were let to relish the taste of delicious cuisine and the Chinese, friends of Pakistanis reproved their bonds and acted like true hosts.
It is said that if a bitter issue is dipped in sugar and dressed in grace, it is easier to digest for all the essential segments of society. Thus, it was very thoughtful on the part of the Chinese embassy to organize a colourful, cultural show that not only served as drawing attention towards women empowerment but also acted as a catalyst for comparing and contracting the traditional culture of Pakistan and China and enhancing people-to-people contact between the two countries while also welcoming the Spring season in style. It is pertinent to mention here that the Chinese embassy has been organizing various cultural events time and time again and it is a healthy effort in encouraging relations.
Guests at the cultural show highly lauded the entire show while showing much hope on the women status in Pakistan in the modern-day scenario saying that those many of the womenfolk still remain repressed but yet many cases do meet the public eye that was not possible in the olden days due to many hurdles in their way, which was a positive step forward. They held that in fact, Pakistani women were becoming stronger by every passing day and registered their gratitude with the Chinese embassy for recognizing the efforts of our women in particular and women in general, while lauding the utterly gracious cultural show to mark the important day for any woman!
