KESC, WAPDA in row over dues
Bureau Report

KARACHI—Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) is insistent to pay its dues to the WAPDA at the rate of Rs3.69 per unit while WAPDA is asking to settle the amount at a rate of Rs5.25 per unit.
KESC officials told on Friday that WAPDA is overcharging KESC without prior permission from the government.
They said KESC is supposed to clear its dues at the rate of Rs3.69 per unit of electricity which amount to Rs13.70 billion. But WAPDA is asking for Rs37 billion at excessive rate.
WAPDA had suspended the supply 300 MW electricity to KESC on non-payment of dues on Thursday. The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) on Thursday morning suspended power supply to the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) due to non-payment of outstanding dues forcing the latter to resort to loadshedding ranging from 4 to 6 hours in almost 80 per cent areas of the city.
