Britney under dad’s thumb until summer

LOS ANGELES—It’s looking as if Britney Spears’ summer vacation is going
to be another family affair. Jamie Spears’ coconservatorship over his
daughter’s estimated $100 million estate has been extended until July
31, Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman Alan Parachini said Wednesday.
No other details were given, but the temporary power Britney’s dad has
had over her affairs was scheduled to expire on Monday, and it’s
well-documented that Jamie and his attorneys have been adamant about
shooting down efforts made Britney’s behalf to wrest control away from
the conservators, including a recent effort apparently orchestrated by
Sam Lutfi to move the case to federal court. Jamie and attorney Andrew
Wallet were named coconservators of Britney’s finances and Jamie was put
in charge of her welfare on Feb. 1, the day after the Blackout
songstress was admitted to UCLA Medical Centre’s psych ward for
evaluation, her second hospitalization that month.
Although Britney immediately tried to fight the court’s ruling, all
attempts to hire her own counsel since her dad took control have been
shot down. L.A. Superior Court Commission Reva Goetz, who extended the
conservatorship during an unscheduled hearing Wednesday, also granted
Jamie the authority last month to fire Britney’s business manager,
Howard Grossman, after the elder Spears claimed he defied the court’s
order by hooking Britney up with a car and facilitating a meeting with
an attorney the day after she was released from UCLA.
Since her series of highly publicized meltdowns, however, Britney has
appeared to be back on track, albeit with much of the credit going to
her father’s renewed presence in her life. She has had a handful of
monitored visits with sons Sean Preston and Jayden James over the past
two weeks, her first face time with the boys since her custody-related
standoff with police at her Beverly Hills home on Jan. 3, which resulted
in a brief stay at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre. |
