25 possible incidents averted of terrorism in Punjab, Sindh: Hamid
By Adnan Rafique

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Minister for Interior Lt. Gen. ® Hamid Nawaz Khan Wednesday appreciated the law enforcement agencies for ensuring peaceful conduct of the general elections and making foolproof security arrangements during Muharram.
Law enforcement agencies averted 20 to 25 possible incidents of terrorism in Punjab and Sindh during Muharram and elections and seized explosive material in huge quantity, the Minister told.
Besides, 422 people involved in terrorist activities were arrested from Swat including 66 most active and immediate facilitators of terrorists. Six tonnes of explosive material had also been recovered from the area of Swat, he added.
Hamid Nawaz said with these achievements and peaceful conduct of elections, the government was of the view that terrorism has almost been controlled and ended and there would be no further incidents of violence.
But, recent spate of terrorism shows that terrorists have some other nefarious designs in which they are targeting law enforcement agencies, he said and termed it retaliation of terrorists against these quarters.
To a question, he underlined the need to evolve a joint and coordinated effort in NWFP to uproot the menace of terrorism and extremism from the society.
He said newly elected government in the province would have an important role to play in tackling this issue of terrorism.
To a question about involvement of foreign elements in terrorists activities, he said such kind of activities could not be sustained longer without the help of foreign involvement.
