PTA Chief for enhancing academic research
By Asim Hussain
RAWALPINDI—Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Major
General ® Shahzada Alam Malik Thursday emphasized the need to enhance
academic research in the country which is greatly linked with industrial
development and its needs.
Addressing the audience at ‘Open House and Telecom Exhibition’ for final
year under-graduate students of Telecom and Computer Sciences Degree
Course, held at Military College of Signals (MCS), here to develop
academic /industry linkage, Chairman PTA said the exhibition plays an
important role in opening industrial channels for students, besides
fulfilling the vital technical requirements of the telecom/software
industry.
“The development programme of any nation can be gauged from this
important factor. Engineering University students and the faculty are
stakeholders, who facilitate industries in preparing their products by
advising them on latest technologies,” he added.
He further said that industries are undertaking major restructuring of
their commercial interests and are looking for new products to increase
their business and technical information. With the sponsorship of
industries, students are encouraged to undertake challenging projects
and MCS is no exsection to this fact, he added.
Brigadier Muhammad Khalid Rao, Commandant MCS said that the students are
given sufficient exposure to undertake such ventures for which
interaction between the universities and industries is essential.
‘Open House and Telecom Exhibition’ is one such forum which provides an
opportunity to both the sides to understand each others requirements and
is conducted regularly once a year, before the termination of under
graduate course, he added. The success of this function depicts the
academic standard of education and students at MCS. He said that our
students are capable of developing projects of national and industrial
interest.
It is worth mentioning here that Open House provides an opportunity for
graduating students to present their work to the representatives of
local firms and facilitate their interviews for employment after
graduation. In addition, it also facilitates the faculty/industry
interaction.
