Pakistan to continue its role for peace, stability: Memon

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A.
Memon Thursday said Pakistan would continue to play its effective role
for peace and stability in the region.He was talking to Dr. Aharlan
Ullman, member of the US Advisory Board of Supreme Allied Commander, who
called on him at his residence. Dr. Amad Turabi accompanied Dr. Ullman
at the meeting.
Dr. Ullman is also a senior fellow at National Defence University and
senior advisor at Washington based Centre for Strategic and
International Studies. He is author of a book titled “Ten Steps to
Defeat Terrorism”. The discussions during the meeting centered on the
current political situation after conduct of the February 18 general
elections in Pakistan in a free, fair and transparent manner. The
Minister apprised the visitor of Pakistan’s frontline role in combating
terrorism that has become a global phenomenon.
“Pakistan moves into future in a better position to meet social,
political and economic challenges due to consistent and effective
policies being pursued by the government,” he said. Dr. Ullman hoped
that mutual interaction would continue to bring people of both Pakistan
and the US further closer and help strengthen bilateral relations. Nisar
A. Memon after the meeting told media that Dr. Aharlan Ullman is a great
friend of Pakistan who is here to meet representatives of various
organizations and political leadership of Pakistan.
He said, “We discussed how not only the governments but also various
segments of society of both countries could come together to promote
better understanding and appreciation for Pakistan’s strategic role in
the region.” Meanwhile, he said that the caretaker government has
fulfilled the promise of holding free and fair elections in the country
and the phase forming new government will be completed in a peaceful
atmosphere. |
