Top leaders
join panel discussions with political advisors
BEIJING—Top Chinese leaders
including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao joined panel
discussions on Tuesday with the country’s political advisors who are
meeting for their annual full session in Beijing.
The discussions of political advisors, or members of the 11th National
Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC),
were joined by CPPCC National Committee Chairman Jia Qinglin, and other
senior Communist Party of China (CPC) leaders Li Changchun, Xi Jinping,
Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang.
All the eight leaders are in the nine-member Standing Committee of the
Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, the top decision-making
body of the ruling party.
Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the 10th National
People’s Congress, said the CPC Central Committee attaches great
importance to multiparty cooperation and the work of the CPPCC.
Joining discussions of CPPCC members from China Democratic National
Construction Association and All-China Federation of Industry and
Commerce, Wu encouraged them to enhance the friendly cooperation with
the CPC, work for their common goals, and contribute more to building a
moderately prosperous society.
Premier Wen Jiabao, during discussions with members from the economic
and agricultural circles, said the Chinese economy is witnessing more
uncertain factors but still has room for further development.
Despite difficulties in judging the trend of economic development and
making scientific decisions, China enjoys huge potentials for expanding
domestic demand, readjusting economic structure, encouraging innovation
and improving people’s livelihood, he said.
Jia Qinglin, during a panel discussion with CPC members of the CPPCC,
encouraged them to play an exemplary role in the political advisory
body, be on good terms and seek cooperation with the non-Communist CPPCC
members.
He told the CPC members to enhance understanding and expand common
ground with the non-Communist personages.
During a discussion with members of the cultural and arts circles, Li
Changchun called for the vigorous development and prosperity of
socialist culture, which was put forward at the 17thCPC National
Congress last October.
He urged the political advisors to deepen cultural restructuring,
stimulate innovation, and enhance international competitiveness and
influence of cultural industry.
Xi Jinping, who joined the group discussion of the medical and sports
circles, called on the CPPCC members to boost the development and reform
in medicine, healthcare and sports sectors.
He also encouraged them to contribute more suggestions for the country
to host high-caliber Olympics and Paralympics with distinction.
Joining science workers, Li Keqiang said that building an innovative
country is a major national strategic choice as China entered a new
stage of development.
He called for enhanced capacity of independent innovation in every
aspect of the modernization process.
He Guoqiang, joining panel discussions with political advisors from the
China Democratic League and the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic
Party, reiterated China’s determination in cracking down on graft and
mapping out new regulations to prevent and curb corruption.
Zhou Yongkang stressed stability in ethnic regions while talking with
CPPCC members of ethnic minorities. He called for full implementation of
the guidelines concerning ethnic and religious work as well as the
system of regional autonomy of ethnic minorities
