Charcoals by Raja Changez go on display

ISLAMABAD—Tanzara Art Gallery here Thursday opened an exhibition titled “Primarily Charcoals” by Raja Changez Sultan to introduce exciting new dimensions of the medium. The magnificent display of charcoals by the internationally renowned poet and painter, is the part of his collection from his figurative series of “The Divided Self”. However, a few pieces belong to his new series titled “Birds of Paradise” in which the artist uses charcoals with an unparalleled distinction from silhouettes to well rounded figures and highly textured forms. Raja Changez Sultan uses the medium extensively for its line value as well as to cover large areas, which results in a fine array of textures and tonalities that tantalize the viewer. “Dove-like forms merge into each other to create an amazingly harmonious effect as if they are ethereal entities in a world of their own,” said an organizer of the exhibition.—Online
