ISLAMABAD—“Pakistan on Wednesday called the Dutch Ambassador to the
Foreign Office and a demarche was made on the issue of blasphemous
Danish cartoons,” said Foreign Office Spokesman Muhammad Sadiq in his
weekly briefing here. He said the matter would also be on the agenda of
the forthcoming OIC summit in Senegal.
Replying to a question he said that no decision has yet been made as to
who will lead Pakistan’s delegation at the OIC summit but added that
Foreign Minister Inamul Haq would be attending the moot. On the question
of re-joining to Commonwealth, the spokesman said, British Prime
Minister has suggested President Musharraf that Pakistan should rejoin
activities of the Commonwealth but the Government has not taken any
decision as yet. Muhammad Sadiq said Pakistan-Iran bus service would
commence in next few weeks. A private Pakistani transport company was
interested to run the service between Quetta-Zahidan and Mashhad, he
added. About Pakistani prisoners at the Guantanamo bay, he said, their
number is less than half a dozen and others have already been released.
Asked about release of Indian prisoner Kashmir Singh, he said, he was
released purely on humanitarian considerations. He, however, said there
were 450 Pakistani prisoners in Indian jails and expressed the hope that
those who have served their sentences would be released soon.
The spokesman for Foreign Office, Muhammad Sadiq has strongly condemned
the statement of Dutch senator regarding blasphemous cartoons of The
Holy Prophet (PBUH), and while registering his protest, has said that
Muslims worldwide were hurt and angry at this blasphemy.
While addressing the weekly briefing at Foreign Office, he cautioned
about such poisonous and heinous acts of blasphemy against Muslims,
which would widen the rift between religions and, encourage the much
feared and disliked clash of civilizations.
He informed that government had summoned the Dutch ambassador in Foreign
Office and launched a strong protest regarding the issue, while official
protests have also been mailed to Brussels, Copenhagen, and other
countries, with emphasis on strong punishment for persons who have
perpetuated this shameful blasphemy.
The spokesman also condemned the latest Israeli aggression against
Palestine, and has demanded immediate cessation of Israeli aggression in
the region. The spokesman also announced that Pakistan supported the
peaceful nuclear program of Iran, as its legitimate right and stressed
on peaceful means to settle this dispute between Iran and IAEA, while
hoping that Iran would abide by reservations of NPT (nuclear
proliferation treaty). |
