Govt committed to increase area under forests: Ejaz

ISLAMABAD—Federal Secretary environment Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi has emphasized that the Government is committed to increasing the area under forests in Pakistan and improve the environment.
The Federal Secretary environment while addressing the gathering of the environmentalists and government officials on the occasion of starting of spring plantation drive by Pakistan Tobacco Company has informed the audience that during the last year the Government had approved Rs. 12 billion for improving the area under forests.
Federal Secretary Environment Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi started the spring plantation drive by PTC by planting a sapling of pine at its nursery located in the Fatima Jinnah Park. He said that plantation reflected the company’s commitment to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) ideals. He said that this was an example that must be followed by other organizations also.
Ali Naseer head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs of Pakistan Tobacco Company while welcoming the chief guest said that the spring plantation drive was an annual feature by the company and it has helped cover significant area under forestation in Islamabad, NWFP and some parts of Punjab.
He thanked the Federal Secretary Environment for his presence and encouragement for the efforts of the company in the field of environment.
He also thanked the district administration and capital development authority for their cooperation.
