New PM,
Cabinet to be finalized on 6th
LAHORE—PPP central leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that the name of
the candidate for Prime Minister’s office may be finalized by March 6
and the PPP will take every decision at the appropriate time and will
not make haste in decision making.
Talking to a private TV channels, Qureshi said that the PPP and all
major parties willing to be its allies have developed consensus that the
serious issue of the reinstatement of judges should be resolved at
parliamentary forum. “We are seeking constitutional opinion and
consultancy from legal experts in this regard. I think we will find an
appropriate solution of the issue. I think that PPP doesn’t want
confrontation with any state institution as confrontation always damaged
democracy and democratic approach in Pakistan,” he said.
The role of the Supreme Court has been clearly explained in the
constitution—overseeing the rule of law and provision of justice, he
said and added that if we overview the character of the Supreme Court it
has implemented the doctrine of necessity for four times in Pakistan,
but we now have to think about the future by ignoring our past to
strengthen judiciary and parliament by granting them their due status.
“We should take a new start by ignoring the past when decisions had been
taken with out taking parliament into confidence. PPP and PML-N had been
protesting inside. Parliament for the sovereignty of the parliament and
it should be our first logical step to grant sovereignty to parliament
now after coming into power.”
Shah Mahmood Qureshi asserted that his party was serious on provincial
autonomy and is of the view that federation can be strong if the
federating units are strong. “I agree that we have to remove the
prevailing sense of deprivation in the people of Balochistan. We have
started healing the sentiments of the Balochs by seeking apology form
them over the injustices committed to them in the past.” About inflation
and price hike in the country, he said that the priorities of the
previous government were to misguide the people without focus on the
middle class of the people as the fruits of the economic policies of
Prime Minister Shuakat Aziz did not trickle down, but he himself tricked
out of the country.
About formation of government in Balochistan, he said PPP was not trying
to form government in Balochistan as it follows the theory of respecting
the mandate of each other.
“We could also form government in Punjab by holding talks with other
parties and independent members. Similarly, we need no one for formation
of government in Sindh, but we have sought cooperation from MQM just to
have cordial working relationship. We are receiving reports that PML-Q
is not agreeing on its parliamentary leader in Balochistan as they have
three of four candidates for Chief Minister Slot backed by three or four
groups. PPP has no concern with the appointment of Zulfiqar Magsi as
Governor Balochistan and PPP has also not been consulted on this
issue.”—Agencies |
