LAHORE—Seven persons were killed and more than 20 injured on Tuesday
after four consecutive explosions at Pakistan Navy War College situated
in high profile security zone, near Mall Road, Lahore. The Spokesman
Punjab Government has confirmed 7 deaths.
According to Capital City Police officer Malik Mohammad Iqbal a suicide
bomber riding on a motorbike hit the college coaster at Gate of War
College paving the way while another bomber on another motorbike
exploded himself inside the in officer two suicide bombers on separate
motorcycle exploded himself inside the college. Soon after wards a third
and fourth blast was heard which was due to gas cylinder explosion.
After the blasts, law enforcers cordoned off the area, and ambulances
and rescue 1112 workers rushed to the explosion site. The injured were
transferred to CMH , Services and MEO hospitals. The entry points of the
college have been closed after the explosions and the media denied
access in the premises. There was a lot of fire and a lot of smoke
coming out of the Naval War College building and fire brigade was trying
their level best to extinguish it.
At least 7 people were killed in the suicide attack, according to Rescue
1122 workers and eyewitnesses. Five of the deceased belonged to Pakistan
Naval College and have been identified as Master Chief Patty officer
Khalid, Shahwaz and Akhtar while 2 other are the suicide bombers. All
the educational institutes were closed in Lahore soon after the blasts.
The head and other body parts of the suicide bombers have been
identified and handed over to Rescue 1122. Spokesman of Pakistan Navy,
Spokesman District Government Lahore, District Coordinator Officer
Lahore Ijaz Muhammad Mian, City Police Officer (CPO) and District Police
Officer declared the explosions as suicide attack. Caretaker Chief
Minister Sindh, Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee and Co-Chairman
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) strongly condemned the attacks at Naval War
College by calling it cowardly act of terrorists.
President Pervez Musharraf, Caretaker PM Muhammadmian Soomro have
strongly condemned Lahore Suicide Blast in which seven people were
killed on Tuesday. In their separate messages, President and PM strongly
condemned the Lahore suicide blast terming it extremely gruesome.
They were of the view that such attacks cannot weaken us urging nation
to keep a cool head as such people (Suicide Bombers) are not humans and
termed it as a cowardly act of terrorists. President directed Law
Enforcement Agencies to be vigilant while asking to submit report of the
blast at the earliest. PM directed concerned staff to provide optimum
facilities to the injured in hospitals.
Meanwhile Acting Chairman Senate Jan Muhammad Jamali, co-chairman PPP
Asif Ali Zardari, Chief of PML (N) Mian Nawaz Sharif, Amir JIP Qazi
Hussain Ahmed and host of others strongly condemned the attacks at Naval
War College by calling it cowardly act of terrorists. It is pertinent to
mention that atleast seven persons were killed and more than 20 injured
