India to hold biggest ever war games

NEW DELHI—India will hold its biggest ever Army-Air Force exercise close to Pakistan border in Thar desert of Rajasthan beginning from March 15.
The 10-day war-games will involve India’s advanced military machines like Mirage and Sukhois and T-90 tanks, a defence spokesman said here on Monday.
“The exercise, codenamed Dakshin Shakti, would be one of the largest exercises undertaken by the Indian Armed Forces in recent times,” he said.
The forces will test its newly acquired military hardware like advanced UAVs, long range multi barrel SMERCH rocket launchers and state of art communication, detection and battle command post equipment.
The army’s formations would go through the full spectrum of stimulated operations in the desert terrain. Swift mechanised manoeuvres with airborne and heliborne troops are also likely to be practiced, he said.—Agenciesip, especially after militants began firing longer-range Katyusha rockets at Ashkelon, a city of 120,000 people.
