By Fakhar Alam

ISLAMABAD—Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad Monday said that newly-elected members of national and provincial assemblies who have contested the election as independent candidates, are bound to join the party of their choice by Tuesday (March 4).
Kanwar Dilshad said that for this purpose the concerned individuals will have to inform the ECP about joining the party of their choice with the consent of the head of that party.
Some of the independent candidates have already informed the ECP in this respect while the others have to follow the suit by March, 4, he added.
He said the quota of the reserved seat for the parliamentary parties would be determined when the process of joining the parties by independent winners of the election is completed.
When this process is completed the parliamentarians will take the oath of their office, he said adding those who won the election on more than one seat will retain the seat of their choice while sparing the others.
The ECP will announce the schedule for holding election on the vacated seats, he said.
To a question he said the priority list submitted by the political parties on November 26, 2007 with respect to reserve seats is the last and final.
According to Constitution and law no amendments can be made in it now, he added.
To another question he said the copies of gazette notification about the winning members of national and provincial assemblies have been sent to all the concerned quarters.
