Bureau Report

LAHORE—Due to special steps taken by the caretaker government, an Indian spy, Kashmir Singh arrested in ‘73 was finally released in the evening of Monday, on humanitarian grounds.
After spending 35 years of sentence for spying, for which he had been sentenced to death, Kashmir Singh gained his freedom owing to steps taken by the caretaker government’s minister for Human Rights, Ansar Burney.
President Musharraf had accepted his appeal for clemency, which had earlier been rejected, after which Kashmir Singh has been known to have wept with joy. While expressing his sentiments over the occasion, Kashmir Singh thanked the government, media and masses of Pakistan.
