Private sector to be involved in vehicle fitness checking: SSP

ISLAMABAD—Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Muhammad Zubair Hashmi has suggested to hand over vehicle fitness checking system to the private sector to help reduce pollution and curtail increasing road accidents.
Addressing three-day Road Safety Education Workshop arranged at Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan’s Office, the SSP said the step would help curtail road accidents, reduce pollution on the roads and bring better change in vehicles fitness.
According to details, ITP is continuing its road safety education program to inculcate traffic sense among the road users. In this regard, a 3-day work shop at Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan was held which was attended among others by the officers including women officials and drivers.
The education team of ITP delivered a comprehensive presentation regarding defensive driving skills and positive attitude. The SSP Traffic and the Executive Director S.E.C Pakistan Mansoor-Ul-Hassan were prominent figures among the participants.
The SSP Traffic responding to questions raised by the audience said that ITP took several steps to build a better image of the force and emerged as a role model for other law enforcing agencies. The force, he said, is very successful to bridge the gap between public and police through its community policing and the same system is being replicated in five cities of Punjab.
The SSP said ITP is striving to include the basic traffic rules as part of the syllabi to acquaint the students of all levels with traffic rules and regulation so as to minimize accidents and violations. Zubair Hashmi said ITP is doing the job in true perspective to bring a safer road environment and enable the citizens follow traffic rules like that of the developed countries.
The traffic education team of ITP visits different departments to educate road users especially the pedestrians with regard to road safety tips. He said the aim of holding the training workshops in the organizations is to polish the driving skills of drivers. More than 200,000 people of different organizations have been trained so far by ITP Education Team, he added.
