Envoy Shahid meets Mayor of Munster

ISLAMABAD—Ambassador of Pakistan to Germany Shahid Kamal met with Dr.
Bertold Tillmann, Mayor of the Historical City of Munster and gave a
presentation about the investment opportunities in Pakistan to potential
German investors from Germany.
Ambassador Kamal visited the famous Hall of Peace in the Town Hall where
the Peace Treaty of Westphalia was signed in 1648 which ended forty
years of religious war. This was his first visit to Munster after
assuming charge as Ambassador of Pakistan to Germany, says a message
received here on Friday.
The Ambassador had a dinner meeting with Ruprecht Polenz, Chairman of
the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Bundestag. He also met with
Generalmajor Hans-Werner Ahrens and with Commander of Air Transport
Command.
He held meetings with Professor Dr. Niederdrenk the Rector of
Fachhochschule Munster and Professor Dr. Wilhem Schmitz. The discussions
focused on possibilities for strengthening academic linkages between the
universities in Pakistan and institutions in Munster. A new University
of Science & Technology in collaboration with a consortium of German
universities is planned to be set up in Lahore this year by the Pakistan
Government.
Pakistan and Germany have a longstanding relationship of friendship and
cooperation. The economic ties between the two countries are growing
rapidly and bilateral trade is increasing.
Pakistan which had a strong economic performance over the past five
years registering over 7 percent GDP growth rate offers interesting
trade and investment opportunities for the German business community.
Ambassador Kamal had useful meetings with heads of leading business
groups in Munster. The Ambassador invited German companies to take
advantage of the expanding market in Pakistan.
Ambassador Kamal emphasized the key role Pakistan was playing in
building peace and stability in Afghanistan and in the region. He spoke
of the sacrifices Pakistan was making in the fight against extremism and
terrorism.
He underlined the importance that Pakistan attaches to strengthening
relations with Germany in the political, security, economic and
technological fields.
The visit of Ambassador Shahid Kamal to Munster has laid the foundations
for promoting closer cooperation and understanding between Pakistan and
the City of Munster. There are good prospects for establishing academic,
economic and cultural relations to the mutual benefit of Pakistan and
Munster. |
