People asked not to be provoked over blasphemous caricatures issue

ISLAMABAD—Member of Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) and Rector International Islamic University, Dr. Manzoor Ahmed has asked the people not to be provoked over re-printing of blasphemous caricatures in Danish newspapers.
“Politics has entered to the matter of blasphemous caricatures and the motive behind this move is to irritate Muslims,” he said taking part in a literary debate over issue of re-printing of blasphemous caricatures in Denmark. They (The Western people) should politely be convinced that they have no right to hurt sentiments of the believers of other religions, he added. He opined that instead of calling strikes and damaging properties, those involved in re-printing of caricatures should be asked not to interfere in religion and civilization of other people. Dr. Manzoor Ahmed pointed out that particular group of people are out to hurt our sentiments and the common European citizens have nothing to do with this issue. He said the West is considered to be the champion of freedom of speech and expression but they must be persuaded that this freedom is hurting sentiments of millions.
He, however, pointed out that responsible citizens have condemned this act and they have accepted that political elements are behind this issue. Dr. Zaidi said we should also think about our deeds adding, “We are tarnishing our image by setting properties on fire and carrying out agitations.”—Online
